Profitability of LaserScreens Compared to Chrome Nickel

ActionLaser sugar screens have been tested in side by side comparisons with chrome nickel screens in continuous centrifugals in numerous sugar factories. The table (on right) shows typical additional REVENUE due to extra sugar recovery, based on the use of LaserScreens versus chrome-nickel screens. Note that the additional revenue gain takes into account the higher price of LaserScreens compared to Chrome-Nickel screens. Cost Savings

Compared to conventional chrome-nickel screens, ActionLaser stainless steel laser perforated screens (”LaserScreens”) deliver major operational savings through increasing sugar yield by limiting molasses purity rise across continuous centrifugal machines. The combination of superior chrome adhesion to stainless steel; tougher steel material versus “softer” nickel; and shorter slot sizes, enables laser perforated LaserScreens to resist premature slot enlargement – by both wear and slot deformation. The benefit is reduced sugar loss to molasses and higher sugar production. The end result: Chrome coated stainless steel LaserScreens provide greater sugar yield and Save You Money.

Downtime and Maintenance

Labour and Downtime costs are greater for chrome nickel screens as they are replaced several times per season, whereas ActionLaser screens typically last an entire season and often longer. In the above analysis, we have assumed one set of LaserScreen per season versus four sets of chrome-nickel screens.

Screen Costs

The price of ActionLaser’s LaserScreens can be 4 to 8 times higher than that of chrome-nickel screens, depending on the origin and quality of the chrome-nickel screens.  LaserScreens have superior impact resistance.  Nevertheless, they should be used only in well managed operations where trash is generally absent.  Usual practice is that LaserScreens are introduced into the centrifugals after the first two weeks of the season or campaign.  Individual steel segments can be replaced if necessary. The benefit of increased Labour productivity was not included in the above analysis.

ActionLaser can readily modify screen design to meet your mill requirements. Changes may include changing the height of unperforated impact zone, slot size & open area combinations, thicker chrome for aggressive massecuites.
